Draft letter to Bill Owen

Dear Bill
Thanks for sending these links to the videos and pictures from the cycling weekend. We think we can agree that the event was a success especially as we had so many volunteers from the village working to support the event, both in the build-up and actually over the weekend itself. It was also encouraging to see a number of households entering into the best decorated house competition and a good turn-out for the children’s chalking on the road which was a lot of fun for those who took part. The children’s activities organised by Welsh Cycling on Sunday morning were a great success and a fantastic opportunity for them to get involved in cycling. The race commentary was inspired and will be remembered for a long time especially by the winner Jake!
However as always there were some negative comments from residents about the road closures, parking arrangements and general disruption over the weekend. Some of these were just grumbles whereas others were more deep rooted and heartfelt.
Going forward, as you know there is currently no active social committee in the village that could coordinate the event next year, but we are planning to get something in place by September or October. In the meantime, as a group of individuals we have decided that if Abergavenny Festival of Cycling wish to bring the event to Grosmont again next year we will support this on the understanding that once the new committee is in place they will consult the with the residents and get a mandate to continue, if this is not possible then we may have to reconsider. We realise that you need a decision ASAP and this way we will keep our options open but will fully understand if you feel you need a firmer commitment at this time.
Hope your treatment is progressing well and that you continue to make good progress,
Best Wishes
Jan Chatfield, Richard Brown & Gaynor Henshall
