£70,000 for community projects:

Many people will be aware that a large solar farm has been built in Llanvapley. What many won’t know is that part of the profit from the operation of the solar energy plant has been earmarked for community projects in the area. £70.000 is available annually for the next 20 years which amounts to £1.4 million over the life time of this project.
“Community Projects” is a loose term but is meant to imply any scheme that has community enhancement as its core purpose. It specifically excludes the money being used for businesses and by individuals. The recipient communities are defined by the COMMUNITY COUNCIL AREAS of LLanarth (including Mydroilyn). Llantilio Crossenny (including Penrhos and Llanvihangel Ystern Llewern, and Talycoed) and Grosmont (including Llangua, Llangattock Lingoed and Lanvetherine).
A steering group has been established to oversee the allocation of this money. This group has yet to define its own terms of reference, decide how and when it is going to communicate with the potential beneficiaries and it has still to determine the principles which will guide its decision making process when it comes to deciding between rival bids. The group, which could be called the 70K Group, was to have met on the 18th July but the meeting was called off at the last minute and has yet to be rearranged. The three communities eligible to apply for the money are each represented on the 70K Group by two community councillors.
