Message from the Grosmont Market Team

Dear all

The Grosmont Market team have met to discuss the 2020 markets, and we are very much looking forward to the up and coming markets throughout 2020.

As a market, we are committed to ensuring that we stay true to our values and ethos – a core part of which is ensuring that the plastic and waste footprint of the market is minimal. At the end of each market, we are throwing away on average at least two large bin bags full of rubbish, the majority of which is plastic plates, cutlery, cups, cartons etc.

We appreciate that for many of the stall holders often the cheapest and most convenient way to serve food or present your products is in plastic. However, going forward, we would really like to encourage all stall holders to make the steps to go plastic free. For future Grosmont markets we will be selecting stalls on their ability to be making the steps to be plastic free. We appreciate that this may add a cost to you but we plan to keep our pitch fee low to offset some of this cost.

All the very best
The Grosmont Market team

Grosmont Christmas Market

This was the first time I have been to the Grosmont market and what a delightful surprise. When I heard ‘village market’ I thought I would be coming to a market where there would be a few stalls selling Granny’s knitted socks in a drafty cold church. But what a delightful surprise to come to this market where the atmosphere was warm and buzzing, and the stalls were unique, local and beautiful. A true unique gem of a market.”  Quote from a market visitor, March 2017.

After much thought and careful consideration, the Grosmont market team have decided that we will now hold the market quarterly with a seasonal theme each month. As most of you will be aware, the Grosmont market has been run over the last three years by a group of mums in the village on a volunteer basis. For each market there is significant work behind the scenes and with the organisers all having young families, we are excited to be focusing our energy into four markets per year– Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. We will continue to strive to make a unique, beautiful market which supports local makers, growers and producers. We look forward to seeing you at the next market which will be the harvest market in September.

The process for applying for a pitch will be the same. We will send out an email to all stallholders in the month before the market asking for interested stallholders to let us know if they would like a pitch. We will then confirm as soon as we can who we can offer a pitch to.

We have all loved each and every Grosmont market and look forward to continuing this unique market but on a quarterly basis

 The Grosmont Market team

Grosmont village holds a quarterly market in the beautiful Nave of Saint Nicholas Church, on the second Saturday, with the exception of Christmas which is the third Saturday of the month. The market has been running since August 2015. The vision of the market is to create a lively community space that attracts and supports local people, food produces and creatives.

On market day you can’t miss the decorated long table set in the centre of the Nave, where people gather to catch up with friends: old and new, feast on the delicious market food, freshly baked cake, drink tea and coffee or read the newspapers provided. It’s bustling, just how you’d imagine a market in the Nave hundreds of years ago. The community together.

The running of Grosmont Market is on a volunteer basis and any profit made is reinvested directly back into the market. With an ever growing variety of stalls, live music and events the market continues to go from strength to strength.

So come along and support this wonderful, unique and vibrant market. Come browse the stalls and enjoy the atmosphere.
